Luke and daddy playing with the ipad

We have a tooth!

This week we've had a lot of drool ...

Some finger sucking ...

and lots of Sophie the giraffe chewing ...

all because of this little beauty!!

It's hard to get a picture, but it's there! Starting last week we saw two white specs in his mouth. (The second is still a white spec - you can sort of see it to the right of the tooth.) We happened to have an appt at the pediatrician this week and she said that it was the start of a tooth, and it could be a few days or another month. Turns out it was just a few days!

That white spec was actually the corner of the tooth that was starting to poke through. Today we looked and realized that you could see the entire tooth! Only half of it (the left side if you're looking at the picture) is completely out, but you can see and feel the entire thing.

He's been doing really well! Looking back there were a few clues - the excessive drooling, the finger chewing, etc. Sophie the giraffe (a famous teether from Paris!) has been a favorite toy as well. Also, one night this week he woke up around 2:30, sort of whimpering. A reswaddle and diaper change didn't seem to help (or even actually wake him up) so I rocked him for awhile. I actually thought he was having a bad dream - turns out it was probably a tooth!

We have a little fishy

We were pretty sure that Luke would love the pool, based on his response to the bath tub. I think we might have a little fishy on our hands.

3 month pictures

We took Luke to Penney's this week for his 3 month pictures and were so happy with how they turned out (especially because we had a coupon that made them pretty inexpensive!)

3 months old!

Wow, what a month it's been! First, for the stats that I know - as of this morning he weighed 14lbs, 13 oz - which means he gained about 1 1/2 lbs in the last month. He won't have an appointment again until 4 months old so we'll get his percentiles then.

He has been learning so much lately! Some fun things from the last month:

-He still loves to "talk." He's started mimicking us sometimes as well - his favorite is to open his mouth up big and wide and say "ahhhhh" (like a doctor would ask you to do.) And as you saw from the video this weekend, he can now "say" mamamamama. (Which makes his mama very proud!)
-He rolled over from his belly to his back! 3 times now, although the third was really just sort of falling over. He tries and tries though! (See video below!)
-His neck control is better everyday. He finally understands tummy time and gets that head up and looking around. He has been in the bumbo seat for short time periods. On suggestion of his daycare we're working on him turning his head to his left more. He can do it just fine, he just seems to prefer his right side.
-Sleep! Oh glorious sleep! Every since his first day of daycare he has been giving us 9-11 hours of sleep at night. He's also becoming quite the wiggle worm - he turns himself 180 degrees in bed. This is causing us to start to wean from the swaddle - so far we're to one arm out.
- He still loves his "gym" only now a whole dimension of fun has been added. He can reach out to touch/hit the objects hanging above him and next to him.
- He has started to reach out and touch my face when I get close to him.
- He has "seen" his feet once, with help from me. They apparently weren't all that interesting because he hasn't done it since.
- He loves the outdoors. He has a swing on our front porch and he's been to the zoo!
- He tries to watch tv. It doesn't matter what direction you face him, he will turn his head/neck to find the tv in the room.
- He had his first cold. A tiny fever, some sneezing/coughing, and a good amount of snot. Luckily it didn't seem to last long.
- He still loves the bath! I think we might look into swimming lessons soon, just so he can get into a warm pool.
- His favorite game is the bouncy game on the bed - he laughs and laughs when we play.
- He's currently eating about 6 oz, every 3-4 hours during the day. He averages about 30 oz/day.

And here is video of him trying to roll over. He gets so close but just can't get it. I think he's confused about why it works sometimes and other times it doesn't.

A reason that I love Mondays

My mom watches Luke which means I get pictures like this sent to me all day:

The amazing talking Luke

Prepare to be amazed. :)

Our little chatterbox has been making the "mmmm" sound for awhile now and yesterday started doing this. I promise he isn't actually sad - I think to get that sound out he has to make the pouty face.

Even though he has no clue what he's saying, I love that he's learning to mimic us. Next up - dadadadada. :)

(The best is starting around 40 seconds ...)

Lions and tigers and bears ... oh my!

On Saturday we went to the zoo and had one of the best days ever! A membership was my gift for Mother's Day and I already know we are going to use it a lot. I really thought that Luke would sleep the whole time, but he was awake and alert and seemed to love it. He didn't look at the animals, but loved being outside, seeing the people, and watching the leaves move. During lunch he watched the leaves move over head and had a whole conversation with them.

Be prepared - this will be a picture heavy post. :)

The night before he wanted to wear his special "zoo" pajamas.

In the car on our way!

Mommy and Luke (sorry, there are going to be a few of these!)

The whole family

We were lucky that the Hultgrens also went, so Molly could show us the ropes.

Although I'm not sure she could figure out why Luke didn't actually look at the animals

Looking at the meerkats!

Another mommy and Luke picture - right before the train ride

Another one!

Luke was more interested in his hands than the giraffes.

Molly got to feed the giraffes a piece of sweet potato!

Looking at the bears

The zoo was so much fun!

A little boy all tuckered out after an amazing day!

Birthday party

On Saturday evening we went to Ben and Brittani's house for their son Hayden's 2nd birthday party. Luke was the youngest there, but still got a goody bag, a cup with his name, and a party hat! (That's the birthday boy peeking around Jason down in the corner.)

Swinging happiness

Tummy time

Finally getting the hang of this tummy time thing! Big heads are hard to lift up!

A new toy!

Not only did mommy get presents today, but so did Luke! We bought him a swing to use on the front porch.

I'm pretty sure that this may become a favorite past time, right up there with the baths in the pod!

The Grandmas' Mother's Day gifts

Luke worked especially hard on his gifts for the Grandmas.

It involved some red paint, which he seemed to like.

And then some blue paint, that he didn't care for ...

To make these 2 sets of handprints ....

Which turned into this!

The poem says,
"Grandma,
This is to remind you,
When I have grown so tall,
That once I was quite little,
And my hands were very small"

Happy Mother's Day!

I can't even begin to explain what this day has felt like - I am so so lucky to be the mommy of the most amazing little boy. For the past few years I've dreaded Mother's Day, but it all became worth it today. Our little miracle baby has changed my life in a way I didn't know possible. I have so much I could say on this, but I just start crying as I type, so you get pictures instead. :)

Luke woke me up this morning with a card, a picture frame, and a zoo membership that we can use this summer! He is especially excited to go see the elephants.

Then we went a fantastic Mother's Day brunch at Sams, where my sister got my mom and I orchid corsages!

I think I look tired in this picture, but I love how Luke was curled up to me.

Then we went home and changed into more comfy clothes and spent some time outside. We also tried out the Moby wrap that we're borrowing. He seemed to really like it! It was pretty funny trying to figure out how it works though.

Happy Mother's day to my mom, Jason's mom, all of our mommy friends, and all of our friends how are mommies at heart but are having a hard time getting there!
