Santa Claus is coming to town

Luke met Santa today for the first time! No tears (whew!) but he seemed a little confused with the whole process. I, on the other hand, was so excited that I didn't sleep last night.

I think he has a little bit of a deer in headlights look going here.

Clapping, part 2

Luke is pretty selective of who he'll clap for, so Uncle Pat doesn't believe that he can. We finally got it on video tonight! (Also, we've learned that we don't have to actually SHOW him everytime. We can just ask him if he can clap, and if he feels like it, he'll show us!)

Climbing on mommy

A rough time

The past 2 weeks or so have been rough in the Fletcher household, especially for a certain little boy. First, in the week after Thanksgiving he partially dislocated his elbow again. It happened at daycare but we're not sure when/how. Jason was able to follow some directions given to us and put it back into place. We took Luke to the pediatrician the next day to follow up and he was good as new!

Then early last week I came down with a stomach bug - it wasn't pretty. Shortly after that Luke had it, Jason had it, my mom may have had it, my sister had it, and my brother was the last to get it. That meant that I was home from work for 2 days, Jason for 1 1/2 days, and Luke only went to daycare one day last week.

Unfortunately Luke's diaper issues seem to be lingering from that and he has his first ever diaper rash. We're working on treating that and trying to slow his insides down too.

Oh, did I mention that during all of that he also had pink eye? Poor guy!

(Not sure if you can tell, but his eyes were swollen here with dark circles under them)

Luke is a trooper though and didn't let any of that get him down! Quite the opposite - he is into more than ever now.

Pulling himself up to a standing position in his crib, behind baby gates ...

Playing with things he shouldn't - like his daddy's Xbox

And playing with what seems to be his favorite toy now. He loves to pull up on this, play with the lamp and book on the little table - and of course beat it with his drumstick.

Clapping

Luke learned to clap today!

First Snow!

It flurried a bit the other day, but today was our first day of sticking snow. Luke wasn't entirely sure what to think at first but I think it got a thumbs up by the end. :)

We don't have a sled, so we improvised with a snow shovel:

Baby jail

We had to put the gate up this weekend to trap Luke in the loft with us. He is getting quick at his army crawl and gets to the top of those stairs in a blink of an eye!

Today he was over at the gate, banging a toy against the rails. "Nobody knows the trouble I've seen, nobody knows my sorrow ..."

In this video he was chasing Pickles down the hallway. Jason had just gone into another room so the door part of the gate was open. It's about an inch and half off the ground, so I didn't really think he could climb over the bottom - I was wrong. Then I had to go grab him before he decided to go further down the hall and down the stairs.

Teaching him at an early age ...

9 months old

I thought if I avoided posting this, it might mean it's not true, but somehow we have a 9 month old. Someone gave me a quote the other day and it is so true: "Days as a parent are long, but the years are short." So true!

He seems pretty excited to be 9 months old though!

I weighed him this morning and he was 22lbs, 4 oz. Not exactly sure how tall he is - we think between 28 1/2 and 29 inches. His 9 month appt is on Wednesday so we'll get a measurement then.

He's eating more "solids" now. By solids, I mean pureed foods. We've switched back to store bought and he will have 1 1/2 stage 2 or 1 stage 3 jar at each meal. We offer more actual solids - toast, cut up peaches, etc - and for the most part he could care less. He loves his puffs and yogurt melts though!

He's officially a self motivated army crawler. It's still army crawling, but wow - he is on the move! He wants into everything! (Especially cords, laptops, power strips ...) Up until a week ago, we had to coax and tempt him with puffs. All of the sudden he decided that he wanted to get to things! The other morning we were in our bedroom while he was in the living room. I heard some noises and looked down the hall, and he was already up to our doorway.

It's amazing to me how he actually thinks now. His favorite toy seems to be the star stacker - he loves to take the stars off and then put them back on. He's also started to create his own little games. He'll hold something up high, drop it, laugh, crawl to it, and do it all over again.

He doesn't seem to like to sit still much anymore - changing his diaper and clothes is a challenge! He also hates to be laying flat on his back.

He has started to give high fives and sometimes we get some random words that we find hard to believe. The other night when Haley was leaving, she said "bye bye Luke" and he looked up at her, said bye-bye! and then went back to his toys.

He's starting to transition up to the transition room at school. This week he's gone over to play, and over the next few he'll go over for naps, to eat, etc. His first full day there will be December 20th. I was expecting it, but I still got teary eyed when they told me. I guess by the time he is a year old they're hoping he'll be off the bottle, on a sippy cup, and eating off the school menu! SLOW DOWN TIME - SLOW DOWN!

The next Annie Oakley(s)

Tim (from work) has wanted to teach Stacey and I how to shoot for awhile. It was a beautiful day today, so he convinced us it would be the perfect time.

First we had to try out our gear. :)

On the way out, Tim instructed us on the rules and told us all about the different guns. He went through how to load the guns, hold them, pull the trigger, etc - and then it was our turn!

I'm not gonna lie - Stacey and I both were extremely nervous at this point and I think were about 5 seconds away from running back to the car and hiding.

I'm so glad we didn't - we had so much fun! We shot from a 9 mm (my favorite), a 22, a 38, and a 45. Surprisingly we each did fairly well in hitting the target. Thank you Tim!

A sugar high

I just opened up my email and was greeted with these fun pictures from the director at the daycare. Todays art activity at school involved icing. Based on these pictures, I don't think we're going to have any problem when it comes around for him to smash into the icing on his first birthday cake!

Having a few laughs with a friend

This picture was taken at Luke's school last week - he was cracking up!

A little pumpkin

When we were at the Halloween party on Saturday, Rowan loaned his pumpkin hat to Luke. Kelli snapped a picture and just sent it to us.

I love this little pumpkin head! :)

Family picture

Karen snapped a picture of us yesterday and I love how it turned out!

Trick or Treat!

Luke was so excited to wake up this morning and realize it was Halloween!

We went Trick-or-Treating at Grandma's house - Luke was lucky enough to get some teething biscuits!

We stopped by to see a few neighbors and stopped by the Hultgrens for the traditional hot dog trick or treating. (The kiddos trick or treat for candy; the adults have beverages and get some grilled hot dogs.) Here is a monkey hanging out with a piggy and a zebra.

That was so much fun!
