I think that most everyone knows that my dad passed away about 5 1/2 years ago. He was a great dad and would have been such an awesome grandpa. When we were deciding on Luke's name we knew that we somehow wanted to use my dad's name. And that's why he became Lucas Kenneth. We wanted him to have that connection to his Grandpa Ken, even if he wouldn't actually get to meet him.
We are trying to make sure that Luke knows about him though. We talk about him a lot and I've shown Luke pictures. I swear there are sometimes that he's talking to him. There have been several times when I'm talking to Luke and he's having a conversation with the imaginary person over my shoulder - I like to think it's with my dad. :)
My dad and I had a song - Pooh Corner. The version that we listened to is on an old scratched up record of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. I have a newer version on the ipod and many nights I've rocked Luke listening to it. I can't even begin to explain the feelings that come over me while we're rocking.
With Father's Day coming up next weekend I've been thinking about him a lot (hence the reason for the blog post. ) Today for the first time we took Luke up to the cemetery to "meet" his Grandpa Ken. :)
And just for fun, here is my favorite picture of me with my dad. I was the flower girl in my Aunt Sandy's wedding and my dad was a groomsman.
